The focus of the study of Schliemann was mainly directed at his archaeological
life and his American journey in 1850. I am convinced that further research of
the diaries and letters will provide much more and interesting information about
Schliemann as a person.
Schliemann’s complete archive also comprises valuable information for other dis-
ciplines. Research options such as the history of 19th century travel, colonial and
postcolonial economics, history of international finance and the socio-economic
history of Greece in the later 19th century

would benefit by more research of the
archive.
Research options like archaeology and the public (or the media), popularising
archaeology, a history of scientific publication and the history of the biographi-
cal research on Schliemann
25
depend less on accessibility of
Schliemann’s archive.
For a further study of Schliemann
(Fig. 5), it is essential though
that more sources are made ac-
cessible publicly. And we could
unleash new questions on exist-
ing sources. A collective or in-
terdisciplinary approach would
be preferable.
The year 2022 is a special year
when we will celebrate Henry
Schliemann’s 200th birthday. It
would be wonderful if this collo-
quium would lead to a renewed
interest and a revival of search
into the life and work of Henry
Schliemann. I do hope that in
2022 together and in good health
we will be able to look back on
the years that now lie ahead of
us.
